Body Mass Index Categories
The Body Mass Index is quite often used to indicate whether an
individual is over or under weight as compared to the average norm.
To do this a range of BMI Categories have been devised ranging from
morbidly Obese (over 40 BMI) through Normal Weight (18-25 BMI) to
Starvation (less than 15 BMI) on the other end of the scale. Thus it is
easy to assess an individuals weight health, although other factors such
as fat/muscle ratio may be involved. A BMI Assessment should always
include discussion with your Doctor to determine its individual
accuracy. It should also be noted that these categories only apply to
Adults, and some leeway may be given when assessing Females.
BMI Category Scale
Starvation: BMI Less than 15
Quite obviously this is a serious situation and Diet Pills should be
avoided at all costs. People in this condition should seek medical
attention as a matter of urgency.
Anorexic: less than 18
With a BMI below 18 the body is fighting a battle to maintain
itself. Diet Pills should be avoided in this instance. Indeed, misuse of
Diet Pills may be part of the problem. Medical attention should be
sought as a priority.
Ideal: BMI 18 to 25
A Body Mass Index of 18 to 25 is a desirable range for the average
middle-aged adult. Weight control in this range can be achieved with a
sensible balance eating plan and exercise. Diet Pills are not necessary.
Overweight: BMI 25 - 30
A BMI of 25 to 30 indicates a weight condition that carries increased
risk of weight related problems such as high blood pressure, high blood
cholesterol, heart disease and diabetes. People in this range should
adopt a weight loss program including a low fat diet and regular
exercise. Diet Pills can help.
Obese: BMI 30 - 40
A BMI of 30 or more indicates a weight problem that needs to be
addressed. Risks in the range include heart disease, diabetes and other
weight related conditions. People in this range need to lose weight to
avoid further problems. Diet Pills can help.
Morbidly Obese: BMI 40 or greater
A BMI of 40 or greater indicates a sever weight condition. People in
this range are at risk of dying early or contracting serious weight
related complications. Immediate action should be taken to minimize
these risks with a concerted weight control and weight loss program.
